“We were essentially blind to infostealers”

Jul 10, 2025

Why did you want insight into infostealers?

“The conversation started through our accountancy firm. They pointed out that infostealers are on the rise, and there’s a lot going on in criminal marketplaces. The question was: would you be open to testing whether anything related to your organization is floating around out there? We were open to that. We don’t want to discover these things only after it’s too late.”

Were you already aware of the risks posed by infostealers?

“No, we were essentially blind to infostealers. Of course, we had our standard measures in place. But infostealers fall outside those frameworks. That’s mainly because they come in through unmanaged devices. We only knew the traditional solutions, but those don’t give you visibility into this risk.”

You started with an Infostealer Quick Scan from Passguard. What did it show?

“We were relieved that our managed devices hadn’t been affected. But it did reveal infections on employees’ personal devices. That’s still something that catches you off guard. Because those kinds of infections can be a stepping stone to larger incidents.”

What stood out to you most in the results?

“The screenshots that infostealers capture. I was surprised to see, based on those screenshots, that information from your desktop and applications is just sitting there, exposed.”

What did you do with those insights?

“We continued with infostealer monitoring through Passguard. Not just because of that one scan, but to keep ongoing visibility. You get alerts when compromised devices pop up, so you can act immediately. You’re no longer playing catch-up.”

How was the implementation?

“Very simple and definitely not time-consuming. Our technical team took care of it, I literally never heard a word about it from them. No complex project, no integrations. Just create an account, hit run, and done.”

How does it fit your reality in terms of budget?

“When making investments in security, it’s important to strike the right balance between cost and the protection offered. It has to deliver demonstrable value and ultimately benefit the safety and care of users and patients. With Passguard, that’s fortunately the case. You get concrete alerts, not a vague dashboard. And the price is very reasonable.”

Who would you recommend this to?

“Any organization that in any way deals with unmanaged devices. Think of healthcare providers, governments, small and mid-sized businesses, really anyone working with sensitive data. You might have top-tier security, but if you don’t know what’s happening outside your managed environment, you’re leaving a gap open.”
